Gingko biloba
Le ginkgo

Ginkgo biloba, commonly known as the ginkgo or maidenhair tree, is a unique species of tree with no close living relatives. Native to China, it has been cultivated for thousands of years and is known for its distinctive fan-shaped leaves and resilience to pollution and pests. The tree is considered a living fossil, with fossils dating back over 270 million years.

Ginkgo biloba was introduced to Europe in the early 18th century. The first European cultivation is credited to the Dutch botanist Engelbert Kaempfer, who encountered the tree during his travels in Japan in 1690. By the mid-1700s, ginkgo seeds had made their way to botanical gardens in the Netherlands and France. The tree quickly gained popularity for its unique appearance and adaptability. Today, it is widely planted in urban areas across Europe and the world, valued for its beauty and hardiness.
